As a teaching artist or classroom teacher, how have you successfully integrated the arts into the social studies curriculum? What were the challenges in bringing the arts into social studies?

I've been using music to teach history for some 25 years in schools thoughout Illinois and Wisconsin by using a combination of music, slides, and stories. My "Heartland" and "Wiscon-sing"programs have been seen by thousands of kids, espeically 4th graders studying state history. Info is at www.davidhbdrake.com
In Milwaukee we've formed a cooperative called "Organic Arts" made up of teaching artists who have made a career of using the arts in schools to teach cirriculum subjects. I'm curious what "Chicagoteachingartist" is about.
